Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup warm water 98 - 100°
  • 1/2 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast 1 packet
  • 1/2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons salted butter
  • 2 garlic cloves sliced thin

Method

  1. Add warm water to a large bowl with sugar, yeast and olive oil. Mix to combine.
  2. Add 1 cup of flour and the salt. Stir to combine. If dough is sticky, add flour, 1 tablespoon at a time until the dough pulls away from the bowl.
  3. Place the bread dough on a lightly floured work surface.
  4. Knead for 3-5 minutes, adding more flour as needed.
  5. Grease a bowl with olive oil and place the dough in the bowl. Cover and set in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and knead out the air bubbles.
  7. On a floured work surface, cut the dough into five sections. Cut each section into 7 pieces.
  8. Roll each piece of dough between the palms of your hands to make a dough ball.
  9. Place each dough ball onto a lined baking sheet with about an inch in between.
  10. Cover with a tea towel and set aside in a warm place while the oven preheats to 375°.
  11. Bake rolls for about 8 minutes.
  12. Melt butter in a small skillet with sliced garlic cloves, cooking about 2 minutes.
  13. Remove rolls from oven and brush with garlic butter.
  14. Return to oven under the broiler for 1- 2 minutes or until golden brown.
  15. Serve rolls immediately or at room temperature.
